Glasscock County Co-op is a vertically integrated self-sufficient cooperative located in west Texas functioning primarily as its own regional cooperative; with numerous divisions including cotton ginning with capacities of 75+ bales per hour and 180K bales per year, grain marketing & grain storage (corn-milo-wheat), farm store-retail with $2 million inventory, fuel, cottonseed covered & aerated storages 35K tons,  cotton by-product storage 200K bales, compress-cotton bale storage warehouses 175K bales, transportation including module trucks as well as over the road semis grain hoppers-walking floor cottonseed-dry vans; with 26 Full time employees and seasonally 85 employees.

 

Position Summary:

  • The general manager’s position oversees the company's processes and operations from a strategic perspective. The general manager shall manage the affairs of the cooperative to inspire membership loyalty and confidence on the part of both members and others outside of the cooperative. The general manager is charged with directing the entire company's employees and managers in a way that motivates them to meet the goals of the company. Responsibilities include developing procedures and policies, maintaining company budgets and collaborations with management to guide them in the direction to meet company goals.

Success Criteria:

  • Business plans are in place.

  • Goals and metrics are established and communicated.

  • Increased overall profitability.

  • Initiatives to increase revenue and improve operations are identified and implemented.

  • Employees are focused on the success of Glasscock County Co-op.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Business Operations

    • Lead the business planning process.

    • Provide leadership on issues facing Glasscock County Co-op.

    • Ensure strategic initiatives are developed and implemented.

    • Analyze and report on strategic initiative progress achievements and or gaps.

    • Increase profitability through identifying and implementing revenue streams and continuous improvement initiatives.

    • Provide guidance on overall financial health and operations.

    • Evaluate and recommend optimal operations for financial performance.

    • Identify strategic projects to grow business-think out of the box.

    • Follow the policies established by the board of directors.

  • Leadership Expectations:

  • Requirements:

    • Minimum 5-10 years of experience successfully working in a verifiable managerial role within the agribusiness industry.

    • Keen strategic thinking and business planning alongside established & proven marketing and origination experience skills in all aspects of agricultural commodities.

    • Experience and in-depth knowledge of agriculture industry.

    • Firm understanding of finance and accounting practices along with a firm grasp and understanding of stock & equities & financial statements.

    • Ability to motivate and lead a group of employees.

    • Technologically proficient.
